We're currently hunting with the Burton family (Tim, Deb, Jordan and Brooke) and friend Colin Pietz from Wisconsin. PH Arnold Klaasen and Jordan shot this cape kudu bull a couple of days ago. He measures L=56 3/4, R=55, Bases 9.5 per side. Jordan was looking for something completely different and he certainly got what he bargained for. Although far from a classic kudu bull, once officially measured he's expected to be near the top of the SCI book for Cape Kudu. Like Arnold so humbly says "even a blind chicken can pick up a piece of corn once in awhile". Well done to Jordan on an outstanding hunt and once in a lifetime trophy.
Jordan also hunted a blesbuck, springbuck, impala, nyala, bushbuck and blue wildebeest
After 14 fruitless days in Zimbabwe last year, Colin and PH Craig got a fantastic Cape Buffalo after 4 days of hard hunting. He followed that up with a red lechwe and a kudu. Colin's luck has certainly changed on this trip.
Jordan's father Tim, hunted with Nibbs and they began their hunt with a great sable. During the course of the week Tim has hunted hard and taken an eland, springbuck, nyala and bushbuck. He shot a kudu in deepest darkest Africa and it took the whole force of the hunting team to recover it from where it lay precariously on a mountain.
Well done guys on a great hunt so far! It’s been a week filled with fun and lots of laughter. Last hunting day today and Colin got a great nyala and Tim a Waterbuck with a beautiful curving set of horns. Jordan, Brooke, Deb and Linday spent the day in Port Elizabeth at the beach shopping.

It was the fourth day of our hunt with Keith when it happened. We'd spent the day viewing game in the Addo Elephant National Park and had returned to the lodge at mid afternoon. The collusion and conniving had begun the evening before and plans had been set in motion. Jake, his girlfriend, Lauren and I set out in search of "a monster kudu'' Mitchell and Nibbs had seen on a far mountain. We drove up the steep jeep track and at a pre-determined spot we stopped the vehicle and continued on foot. If Jake was nervous, he wasn't showing it and went about the whole business in his normal calm way.

- Saturday, 19th December 2015
The crickets are screaming now. They lost their tune about 20 degrees ago. I've decided that whoever attached the adjective "screaming" to the word "hot" had to have experienced the Karoo on a day like this. It's 41 Degrees Celsius / 105 Fahrenheit today. I'm sitting on my chalet deck writing this hunt story. It's the second last day of our 2015 season and my boots are almost hung up for the year. Hopefully there's a bushbuck in my short term future to make a fitting end to the season.

We were excited to welcome Rick and his son, Mike, to South Africa on their first ever African hunt. Their hunt unfortunately coincided with the start of an unusually cold and wet weather spell. We were however determined to make the most of their time with us and were soon onto a group of impala. Mike's first shot at an impala was a tricky one and the shot missed it's mark. Later that morning we stalked another herd and Mike's shot hit him a little far back. We followed the blood trail until it dried up. Mitchell and I decided to follow in he direction in which the ram was moving and walked right past the spot where he was bedded down. He stood up and Mike promptly gave him the kill shot.
- Wednesday, 17th June 2015

- Friday, 7th February 2014
Shortly before Christmas, Mitchell our chief tracker at Karoo Wild Safaris, saw a large spotted cat climbing a mountain away from him in the Boschfontein area of the reserve. Thinking it to be a leopard he radioed it in and I came to investigate. We found tracks consistent with that of a leopard or cheetah but it was unclear whether the tracks were showing claws or not. Leopard are able to retract their claws and don't under normal circumstances show claws in their tracks. More closely related to the dog family, cheetah are unable to retract their claws. Leopard are common to our mountains and because of their secretive nature are able to live in relative harmony with the community. Cheetah on the other hand are generally docile towards humans but because of their preference for open areas can cause massive losses amongst livestock.
- Thursday, 19th September 2013
Frank and Tom, brothers from California joined Karoo Wild Safaris for a 7 day plains game hunt in the Eastern Cape South Africa. Frank has hunted in Namibia and Zimbabwe before but this was his and Tom's first visit to South Africa. Earplugs were required as I was to find out later...

After spending a couple of nights in Port Elizabeth enjoying the various game parks and beaches, I met them in Port Elizabeth and we travelled 130 kilometres to our lodge in the Karoo. We had a few shots at the range that afternoon and settled in for the night at the lodge for a hearty dinner. It was Dan and Celine's first time in Africa and they had a wishlist of four species, two of which were to be hunted by Celina. She had never taken a deer or antelope before and we were hopeful of giving her an opportunity to hunt her first ever animal with us at Karoo Wild. Throughout our time together I enjoyed their good easy going nature and desire to learn and experience everything new.
