Planning your plains game hunt
Thorough preparation is needed to make your dream plains game hunt become a reality. Speak to us about what species / trophies you'd like to hunt during your South African hunting safari, how many days you have available and how many persons in your party. Let us plan a range of activities and tours for the non-hunting members of your family or party. A list of contactable references of past clients is available on request.
Choose from one of our Hunting Packages or select from our Hunting Trophy List. We specialize in trophy hunting but also have excess management animals that we need to cull. Check our packages for any details on cull animals available or contact us regarding this. We'll construct a plains game hunting safari tailor-made to your needs. We'll quote you accordingly and reserve your hunting safari.
A meet and greet / transfer service is available to and from Port Elizabeth airport. Port Elizabeth is a short domestic flight (1 hour 30 minutes) from either Cape Town or Johannesburg International Airports. Haaspoort Lodge is 75 minutes drive from Port Elizabeth.
We recommend calibres of .270 Winchester and larger for plains game hunting. Please bring a minimum of 50 rounds of premium ammunition per rifle. A good quality scope between 3 - 9 power is essential. Because of the variety of terrains in the Eastern Cape, shooting distances range between 50 - 200 yards. We make good use of shooting sticks but it is advisable to practice and familiarise shooting with a rifle in various positions (sitting, prone and off-hand) before your safari.
Visitors bringing rifles into South Africa for hunting purposes are asked to fill in a SAP 520 document Temporary Import Application when bringing their own firearms into South Africa. This is done at the airport of entry. We can also recommend an agent to assist you with the paperwork and obtain a pre-issued import permit upon arrival in South Africa. Upon booking, please let us know if you'd like to bring your own rifle on safari. We'll provide you with the necessary forms and information to expedite the process.
Alternatively, we have a variety of rifles and calibers available free of charge. Ammunition is charged at cost.
